CIS 251 Computers in Management (3 credits)
The purpose of this course is to provide an introductory experience in the use of computers for management activities. The major focus will be on using a microcomputer in business today. Emphasis will be on the use of the Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system, the Internet including the use of Electronic Mail, Word Processing, Spread Sheets, and Presentations all using Microsoft Office XP. At its completion, the student should be able to use a PC to solve a number of business application problems.
CIS 258 RPG Programming (3 credits)
The purpose of the course is to provide an introductory experience in the use of the The AS/400 RPG programming language and ASNA Visual RPG. The major focus will be on how RPG is used today to provide business solutions in hundreds of thousands of businesses across the world. Emphasis will be placed on the basics of the language itself and not its implementation on one specific computer. At its completion, the student will have used RPG/400 code in a visual Windows environment to solve a number of business application problems, have an understanding of RPG as it is used on the AS/400, and had an opportunity to taste the new world of visual programming using RPG.
CIS 320 Hardware and Software Systems
(3 credits)
Designed to give the student basic knowledge of the various operating systems encountered at a typical business. They will gain an understanding of the differences between them and learn to install and maintain them from the viewpoint of a manager managing a group of computer users. Included will be DOS, Windows 3.x, Windows 9x, and Windows NT/2000/XP. In addition the student will be exposed to setting up a typical business network environment sharing files and printer resources. Methods of backing up each user from a central location will be explored. The installation of application software such as MS Office will be discussed and experienced. In addition the course will include regular discussion of typical methods used in troubleshooting day to day computer related problems with hands on examples.
CIS 350 QuickBooks (1 credit)
The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to an easy-to-use and full-featured accounting system for small businesses. The student will learn how to create and customize a QuickBooks company, modify a chart of accounts, invoice customers, receive payments, write checks, enter and pay bills and more. Each student will be interactively learning using the full featured QuickBooks Pro Version 6 Windows 95 application.
CIS 350 Visual Basic (3 credits)
This course is an introduction to the Visual Basic programming language and environment. Visual Basic is an object oriented/event driven language, different from earlier procedural languages. The emphasis in this course is developing applications for use in business in a Windows 9x/NT environment. You will learn to use controls and assign properties to them to create the typical application interfaces that you see under Windows. GUI design skills will be emphasized. You will learn how to code selection and repetition structures, use control and variable arrays, and write programs that use sequential and random files.
CIS 350 Desktop Publishing (3 credits)
The purpose of the
course is to introduce the student to the process of desktop publishing using
rapid application software. The students will get beyond the basics of MS Word
and learn how to create professional looking documents for business. Publisher
is a fun yet powerful program that lets you do it all in style. They will learn
how to combine text, clip-art, and other graphic elements that result in
eye-catching printed documents and master its mail-merge function, too. The
course will even touch on how to use MS Publisher 2002 to create and maintain
personal and business web sites. At its completion, the student should be able to use
MS Publisher 2002 to solve a number
of business application problems.
CIS 324 Web Page Development (3 credits)
The purpose of the course is to introduce the student to the process of web page development using rapid application software. Students are exposed to common web page formats and functions to create a personal web site. Among the topics are: HTML basics, MS FrontPage 2002, Scripting, and the creation of web objects such as animated graphics and banners. You will be encouraged to create your own personal web site. Basic java Scripting and the creation of animated graphic and Web banners will also be covered. The student will create a web site using both the template approach and by designing one from scratch
CIS 350 Graphics (1 credit)
The purpose of this course is to introduce the student to computer graphics. Students will learn what the different types of graphics are, how to find various types of graphics, how to use them in documents, publications and web pages, learn how to use various applications to create their own graphics. Computer graphics are used in an ever-increasing number of ways in both business and personal applications. Some of the more common examples are newsletters; flyers, signs, announcements & posters; greeting cards; presentations; and Web pages. This course is designed to provide the student with a practical overview of computer graphics files
